Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect through riverandvalleypublications.com and our newsletter, why we collect it, and what your rights are. We keep data collection to a minimum: this website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising trackers.
1. Who is responsible
River & Valley Publications is the publisher of the books shown on this website. The party responsible for processing your personal data (the "controller") is:
trading as River & Valley Publications (legal name of the operator)
PO Box (postal address)
Email: info@riverandvalleypublications.com
This policy is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for visitors in the European Union and EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For visitors in the United Kingdom, the UK GDPR applies in the same way.
2. Visiting this website
When you open this website, your browser automatically sends technical information to our web server, such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and your browser type. Our hosting provider stores this in server log files for a limited time, to keep the website running securely and to detect misuse. We do not use this information to identify you.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The fonts and images on this website are stored on our own server. No data is sent to Google, social networks or advertisers when you load a page. The only exception is the newsletter sign-up form on the home page, which is loaded from our newsletter provider (see section 3).
Do Not Track: this website does not track visitors over time or across other websites, so it treats every visit the same way, whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
3. Newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name. We use this only to send you news about our books, such as new titles and seasonal editions.
- Double opt-in: after you sign up, you receive an email with a confirmation link. You are only added to the list once you click it. If you don't confirm, you won't receive any newsletters.
- Unsubscribe: every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at any time. Your address is then removed from the mailing list.
- Statistics: our newsletter tool records whether a newsletter was opened and which links were clicked. We use this only in order to see which content our readers find interesting.
- Provider: the newsletter is sent with the newsletter service of Infomaniak Network SA, Geneva, Switzerland. Your data is stored in Switzerland.
- Sign-up form and spam protection: the sign-up form on our home page loads its scripts from Infomaniak's newsletter server. Your browser therefore connects to Infomaniak when you open the home page, which transmits technical data such as your IP address. The form includes ALTCHA, a spam check that runs in your browser without cookies and without asking you to solve a puzzle.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before.
We keep your data for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we delete it, unless we have to keep a record of your consent for legal reasons.
4. Contacting us by email
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We keep the conversation as long as needed for that purpose. Our email is hosted by Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering your message, or the steps needed before a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
5. Links to Amazon
The "Buy on Amazon" buttons are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to Amazon until you click one. Once you are on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies.
6. Who receives your data
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. The only party that processes it on our behalf is our hosting, email and newsletter provider, Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. The European Commission recognises Switzerland as providing an adequate level of data protection.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask which personal data we hold about you (access)
- have incorrect data corrected
- have your data deleted
- restrict or object to its processing
- receive your data in a common format (data portability)
- withdraw your consent at any time
To use any of these rights, email info@riverandvalleypublications.com.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EU or EEA, the supervisory authority of the country where you live.
8. Changes
We may update this policy when our website or services change. The current version is always available on this page.
